KARACHI: Court on Monday extended physical remand of four policemen allegedly involved in the incident of murder of a 19-month-old boy, Ahsan, for one day, ARY News reported.

The arrested police officials were produced before the Malir Court.

Father of the minor boy said police wanted to protect the suspects, Khalid, Amjad, Abdul Samad and Peeru.

The public prosecutor said initially the investigation officer had termed it a case of terrorism. The former investigation officer had revealed that police official Abdul Samad had opened fire under influence of drug, said the prosecutor.

He relayed the court that previous record was not provided to him. He demanded to be provided previous record and statement of the suspects.

The Counter Terrorism Department of police said the police officials were arrested on pointing of the eye-witnesses.

Police said the shells of rounds found at the site of the incident belonged to weapons of police.

Public prosecutor said no police encounter had taken place; instead they had a heated argument over money issue.

On April 25, a court had sent four police personnel allegedly involved in murder, Ahsan, to jail on four-day judicial remand.

The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) police had produced the suspects before a judicial magistrate in Malir and pleaded the court for physical remand so as they could interrogate and record their statements.
