Fares, Green Line Express, train, Rs800

KARACHI: The Pakistan Railways on Thursday raised fares of Green Line Express, which commutes between Karachi and Lahore, by Rs800, ARY News reported.

Fare of air-conditioned business class was raised from Rs5,700 to Rs6,500.

“The reason behind increase in the prices is provision of breakfast and meal to passengers,” said the PR spokesman.

Prior to this, the Green Line Express passengers were not provided the facility of breakfast and meal, he said.

On April 2, Sindh Transport Minister Awais Shah had directed transporters to refrain from charging excessive fares from the commuters in the province.

“Fares to remain unchanged as Sindh has already rejected hike in petroleum prices”, Shah had said in his statement issued here from Karachi.

He had also advised citizens to contact his ministry or traffic police if they were excessive charged by the transporters.

On Monday, Karachi Transport Ittehad (KTI) President Irshad Bukhari had announced that transportation fares will remain unchanged despite a hike in prices of petroleum products.

While talking to media, Bukhari had said that the owners of the vehicles’ were mostly using Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) up to 90 per cent while 10 per cent buses were using diesel.
