ICC World Cup trophy lands in Pakistan
Cricket’s biggest prize, the ICC World Cup trophy, landed in Pakistan on Thursday, marking a monumental day in the country’s sporting history.
The trophy arrived in Islamabad and will visit three cities on its journey here.
Pakistan skipper Sarfraz Ahmed brought the glittering trophy from Dubai, and it is going to be displayed at the Centaurus Mall on April 12, then it will travel to Lahore where fans can view it at the Packages Mall on April 13.
The last stop is Karachi where a grand celebration will be held at Dolmen Mall Clifton on April 14 which also includes a concert, food festival and fireworks.
Sarfaraz, while talking to the media said he aims to bring back the trophy to Pakistan after winning the upcoming World Cup. He also appreciated the efforts of Pakistan cricket board (PCB) and Chief of Army staff to bring back cricket to the country.
“I would like to thanks the COAS for his efforts to bring back cricket to the country, the PCB too has played an important role in the revival of cricket as well,” he said.
The cricket mega event is slated to be held from May 30 to July 14 in England this year.
The Green Shirts will open their campaign against West Indies on May 31 at Nottingham.
