Jeddah-bound passenger held for swallowing heroin capsules at Islamabad airport

ISLAMABAD: The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) claimed to have foiled a bid to smuggle heroin out of the country at the Islamabad International Airport.

According to ANF, a passenger, named Muhammad Naeem, was arrested for trying to smuggle narcotics to Saudi Arabia. He had swallowed 50 capsules containing heroin.

The held suspect, a resident of Texila, was to board a Jeddah-bound flight (SV 3887). During initial interrogation, he confessed to having swallowed heroin-loaded capsules in order to smuggle them to Jeddah.

He was shifted to the ANF cell for further investigation.

Earlier this month, the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) had seized 250 grammes of heroin hidden in a consignment of oil filters at the Allama Iqbal International Airport.

According to ANF officials, the consignment was to be shipped to Canada. Acting on a secret information, the officials checked the consignment, which led to recovery of heroin worth millions of rupees.

Before that, the ANF had foiled a bid to smuggle drugs to Italy and recovered seven kilogrammes of heroin worth Rs60 million in the international market during a raid conducted at Faisalabad airport. The alleged smuggler was taken into custody.
