KARACHI: Additional Inspector General (AIG) Karachi Amir Sheikh on Wednesday said it was a challenge for the department to provide police officials excellent education and health, ARY News reported.

“The Karachi police are performing their duties even with low budget,” Amir Sheikh said while talking to media in Karachi.

He said efforts of police had pacified the environment in Karachi. He said police had to face different crimes including their own target killing.

The Karachi police chief said the metropolis required over 9,000 more police officials to check crimes.

He said weapons were recovered from captured suspects in more than 80 percent of the cases.

On February 24, the AIG Karachi had directed police personnel to avoid endangering citizens’ lives during action against criminals.

While chairing a high-level meeting, AIG Karachi Amir Sheikh had emphasised on security of citizens during the operations against criminals. The meeting was attended by all police officers including Station House Officers (SHOs) and Investigation Officers (IOs).

Security personnel were directed to prioritise citizens’ security instead of taking risks while targeting criminals. Sheikh had said that decision to encounter criminals should not be taken if there was risk of life loss of any citizen.
