Imran Farooq, murder case, ATC

ISLAMABAD: An anti-terrorism court hearing Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Dr Imran Farooq’s murder case on Thursday directed the parties to present their concluding arguments on June 20, ARY News reported.

ATC Judge Shahrukh Arjumand in his reserved judgment rejected the Fedearl Investigation Agency (FIA’s) plea seeking more time to present evidence collected from the Britain.

“The court will give its verdict in the case after concluding arguments on June 20”, the judge remarked.

In the month of April, Khalid Shamim and Mohsin Ali backtracked on their confessional statements recorded before a magistrate in Imran Farooq’s murder case.

Khalid Shamim alleged that he was tortured before being presented in front of the magistrate to record the statement.

The second accused, Mohsin Ali, said he had given no statement in front of the magistrate at all. He claimed that he was severely tortured but he had refused from speaking up.

“I complained to the magistrate about this behaviour, but he just signed on a statement prepared beforehand and stamped it as being my statement”, he alleged.

The two are facing the charges of killing Dr Farooq, who was murdered in London near his residence in September 2010.
