Pakistani toddler sent home from KSA after parents sentenced for drug peddling

A three-year-old girl was brought back safely to Pakistan from Saudi Arabia on Monday after her parents were caught and sentenced in the kingdom for charges of drug smuggling last year, ARY News reported.

The family was caught trying to smuggle drugs at the Jeddah airport while travelling under Umrah pretext.

The husband and wife were scanned and approximately 100 heroin capsules were found in their stomachs.

PM’s Special Assistant on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development Zulfiqar Bukhari had directed the managing director of Overseas Pakistani Foundation (OPF) and Pakistan’s community welfare attache in Jeddah.

The husband was awarded capital punishment while the woman was sentenced to 18 years in prison.

After a formal dialogue with Saudi officials, the infant was handed over to the community welfare attache and was subsequently brought back to Pakistan.

Bukhari lauded the efforts of the state’s welfare attaché and OPF. “We are trying to minimize such acts, we are still clueless to how people are coerced into carrying out such deeds,” said PM’s Special Assistant on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development.
