President Alvi hails social media as agent of ‘change’

ISLAMABAD: The President of Pakistan Dr Arif Alvi on Thursday underscored the importance of social media as an ‘agent of change’ in the age of information, ARY News reported.

The President while chairing a meeting with officials of the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan termed it ‘an easy tool that ensured vast outreach’.

Stressing upon the social media’s role towards nation building , the President said that Ministry of Information had to broaden its mandate to counter anti-state propaganda and ensure projection of a positive image of the country in cyberspace.

He directed the ministry’s social media team to be more active and vigilant towards using digital graphics techniques and content development to better influence the digital world.

SAPM Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan apprised the President that the ministry was well aware of the platform’s importance every effort was being exhausted to effectively use the tool in projecting a positive and progressive image of Pakistan.

The President was informed about social media advertisement’s being taken under consideration under the new advertisement policy.

The President was also briefed about the ministry’s social media team’s efforts to counter anti-state propaganda in an effective and timely manner.
