‘Sealing hospital not a solution’: SHC directs govt to fix healthcare system

SHC Nishwa Darul Sehat Hospital

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday sought a report on performance of the Sindh Health Care Commission, ARY News reported.

A two-judge bench, headed by Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar, directed the commission’s head to turn up along with complete record of actions it has so far taken to ensure provision of adequate and proper healthcare facilities to people.

The judge observed the petition at hand has been filed because of the Darul Sehat Hospital incident.

“What has the commission been doing? What action did it take until now,” questioned Justice Mazhar.

To this, the deputy health secretary said the private hospital has been sealed.

The bench asked the secretary to apprise it of the commission’s performance since it was set up and how many hospitals it had visited so far.

Observing that sealing a hospital is not a solution to the problem, the bench directed health officials to fix the entire system.

After battling for her life for more than a week, Nishwa had breathed her last last week at Liaquat National Hospital in Karachi.

The case of the minor girl came to light on April 14 when she was reportedly administered a wrong injection by the staff of Darul Sehat Hospital which paralysed Nishwa.

Father of the girl, Qaiser, alleged that her daughter, Nishwa, was paralysed due to a ‘wrong injection’ given to her by the ‘untrained nursing staff’ of the private hospital.
