Imad salutes Riaz for driving Pakistan to a win with a broken finger

Pakistan’s all-rounder Imad Wasim played a gem of an inning under pressure to steer his team to an important and thrilling victory against Afghanistan on Saturday at Leeds.

Despite playing a match-winning knock of 49 runs off 54 deliveries, Imad gave credit for the win to Wahab Riaz who contributed 15 crucial runs in the total on 9 deliveries with a broken finger, which included a game-turning four and a six.

“I want to give credit to Wahab Bhai, he was bashed earlier, but he played with a broken finger today.” said Imad. “He bowled with a broken finger and hit those two crucial [boundaries] a  four and a six which got the game close, I salute him for playing so well for Pakistan.”

While chasing a nominal target of 228 runs, Pakistan were six down for 156 with 72 runs still required to register a win. Imad had a handy 50-run partnership with Shadab Khan before the leggie got run-out, the partnership got Pakistan closer to a win.

Imad and Wahab batted bravely under immense pressure and took Pakistan over the line, which was necessary to stay alive in the tournament.

Imad Wasim got the player of the match award for his match-winning inning and bowling an impressive spell of 2 for 48.

Pakistan will face Bangladesh in their next encounter on Friday at Lord’s.
