Asif Ali Zardari shifted to PIMS from Adiala Jail
RAWALPINDI: Former president and PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari on Thursday shifted to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Hospital for medical treatment, ARY News reported.
Incarcerated Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Zardari was shifted to the hospital from Adiala Jail on recommendation of a medical board, sources said.
Earlier, arrangements were finalized at cardiac department of PIMS for the former president, sources said.
People’s Party leader will be admitted at the VIP room of the PIMS, sources earlier said.
The cardiac centre will be declared sub-jail after transfer of the former president to hospital, sources said.
Zardari suffering from a number of health issues including cardiac disease and sugar problem, according to sources.
A medical board had earlier sent its recommendations to the Ministry of Interior after examining health condition of the PPP leader last week.
Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari had earlier regretted that the government was not shifting his father to a hospital despite his ill health.
“Visited my father in jail he is being held without being convicted of any crime. Can confirm
news below is true. Govt doctors advised he be taken to hospital but govt is refusing. We are
going to court. If anything happens to him govt will be responsible,” Bilawal tweeted.
Parliamentary Leader of the Pakistan People’s Party in Senate, Sherry Rehman, also reiterated the party’s demand to transfer the PPP co-chairman and former president Asif Ali Zardari to
hospital from the jail.
Sherry Rehman, in her statement to media, said that doctors have advised shifting Zardari to
hospital following his deteriorated health condition. The PPP leader criticised the federal
government and jail authorities for keeping Zardari in the jail against the advice of doctors.
