PCB unveils 2019-20 domestic cricket structure

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Saturday unveiled the competitive 2019-20 domestic cricket structure, to enhance first-class cricket and create sustainable success at international level.

Chairman PCB, Mr Ehsan Mani made the opening statement at the unveiling, while Managing director PCB, Wasim Khan explained the new domestic structure in brief.

The new structure will create opportunities for the coaching and management roles for former cricketers, while domestic cricket players will be rewarded with better performances.

According to the new structure, 16 regions have been merged into six associations and it is divided into 3 different layers.

The three-layered structure will function as follows:

• In the first tier, the 90 city cricket associations will be responsible for organising club and school cricket in their respective jurisdictions and subsequently forming their city cricket teams
• In the second tier, the city cricket teams will participate in intra-city competitions within the jurisdiction of their cricket associations
• In the third tier, the best performing players from the intra-city competitions will form the six respective cricket association side that will participate in the PCB-organised tournaments

Each cricket association will award 32 players a yearly domestic contract but will not be part of PCB’s central contract. The association can also add a player to the match by giving them compensation per match besides 32 players.

Player with domestic cricket contract will get Rs 50,000 per month.

MD PCB also announced the schedule of the domestic tournaments.

• Quaid-e-Azam Trophy First Class matches will be held from September 14 to October 8 and October 28 to December 13.
• The National U-19 Cricket Tournament will be held from 1st October to 12th November.
• The Quaid-e-Trophy Second XI will be played from September 14 to October 10 and October 28 to November 29.
• The National T20 Cup will be played from October 13 to 24. First XIs will play in Faisalabad, second XIs will play in Karachi.
• The Pakistan Cup one-day tournament will begin from 29 March and ends on 24 April 2020.

Moreover, PCB has decided to implement Kookaburra balls across these tournaments to help enhance domestic cricketers for the international level.

While addressing to the event, chairman PCB said that improving cricket quality is PCB’s top priority.

“The implementation of the new domestic structure will improve the performance of national players,” he said. “PCB will fully support the provincial associations in the preparation of the new structure.”
