Centrally contracted players to undergo fitness tests next week

Pakistan’s national team centrally contracted players will undergo the fitness tests at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) on 6 and 7 January in Lahore.

All the players will have to attend the two-day testing as per their contracts. Pace bowling duo of Mohammad Amir and Wahab Riaz along with leg-spinner Shadab Khan will go through the tests on 20 and 21 January due to their commitments in Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

Strength and conditioning coach of the Pakistan national team, Yasir Malik will conduct the tests which will cover five major areas, fat analysis, strength, endurance, speed endurance, and cross-fit.

If a player fails to meet the requirements, he will be fined 15 percent of his monthly retainer, which will remain effective until such time he achieves the minimum fitness standards and if he fails consecutively, he might face a demotion and will also risk the chances of retaining his category.

PCB Director International Cricket Zakir Khan has said that these tests will be conducted at the association levels too.

“Not just national team, the six Cricket Association teams will also give their tests which will be conducted by their respective coaches and trainers as per their own schedules and players failing will put themselves in danger of featuring in the Pakistan Cup One-Day Tournament to be held from 25 March to 19 April,”
