Labuschagne scores double-hundred as New Zealand openers counter
Marnus Labuschagne’s remarkable summer continues with a maiden double ton as Australia was dismissed after posting 454 on tea of the second day of the third test against New Zealand at SCG, Sydney.
Australia didn’t have the better day with the bat as their last five wickets departed for just 44 runs. New Zealand’s opening pair Tom Blundell (34*) and stand-in captain Tom Latham (29*) were able to show some resistance as they closed the play at stumps. The Kiwis are 63-0.
Labaschagne scored 215 and was caught and bowled by off-spinner Todd Astle. He has now scored 837 runs at an average of 119.57 in five home tests this summer.
The visitors were quick to remove Matthew Wade (22) and the last test man of the match Travis Head (10). Tim Paine’s composed innings of 35 were ended by Colin de Grandhomme as he was bowled between bat and pad.
Neil Wagner and de Grandhomme claimed three wickets each with Astle picking up two wickets. Matt Henry and William Somerville were able to pick one wicket each.
