Dane Piedt quits South Africa to pursue career in USA

Cape Town: Proteas spinner Dane Piedt has decided to quit his South African cricketing career and will now play the United States of America.

The 30-year-old Piedt is in hope of playing the World Cup after meeting the qualifying criteria to play for the USA national team and revealed that he has signed a deal to play professional cricket in the States.

“The USA were given ODI status last year so it’s not completely out of the question,” Piedt told a renowned website

Piedt is expected to compete in the new Minor League Cricket T20 tournament, which is due to launch this summer, ending his career at home.

He made his Proteas debut in 2014, played 9 Tests for South Africa, claiming 26 wickets. This also brings an end to his 10-year franchise career with the Cape Cobras.

“Thank you for an incredible 10 years Cobras Cricket, it was something I’ll treasure for the rest of my life. Never easy leaving. But I have loved every second, trophies won and life long friendships made,” he wrote.
