I’ve never said India lost deliberately to England at World Cup: Ben Stokes
Karachi: English all-rounder Ben Stokes has denied the claims that he has hinted that India lost to England deliberately at the 2019 World Cup.
Stokes, who in his latest book, ‘On Fire’ analyzed England’s games in the mega event, but the analysis of the encounter against India got much attention on all platforms.
The 28-year-old wrote that he was baffled by the batting tactics employed by Indian batsmen Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and MS Dhoni while chasing the target of 338.
Former Pakistan pacer Sikandar Bakht claimed that Stokes has written in his book that India lost deliberately to England to remove Pakistan from the World Cup.
Stokes termed the allegations as “twisting of words” or “clickbait” after a Twitter user asked Bakht where has Stokes made such comments.

“You won’t find it cause I have never said it… it’s called “twisting of words” or “clickbait”,” Stokes replied.
He was left surprised by India’s approach in the 338-run chase and said he saw “little or no intent” from Dhoni. He also termed Kohli and Rohit’s batting in the run-chase as “mystifying”.
“Arguably, the way MS Dhoni played when he came in with 112 runs needed from 11 overs was even stranger. He appeared more intent on singles than sixes,” Stokes wrote.
“The way Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli played was mystifying. I know that we bowled brilliantly well during this period, but the way they went about their batting just seemed bizarre,” he added.
It must be noted that India faced England in the 38th match of the World Cup at the Edgbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham where they lost by 31 runs.
Earlier, at that time, cricket pundits and fans were also shocked by India’s intent. This was also one of the main reason which discouraged Pakistan’s chances of making into the last four.
