Iqbal Qasim thinks selectors should manage Shaheen Shah’s workload

Karachi: Former left-arm spinner Iqbal Qasim thinks that emerging pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi’s workload should be managed by the selectors.

The 67-year-old while talking to ‘Sports Room’ at ARY News rated the 20-year-old highly as he has been a performer for the senior team since his international debut in 2018.

“Shaheen has maintained his performances since he was included in the team. He is gradually progressing as a senior player. He should be an example for the upcoming fast bowlers,” he said.

“But he will wear out if his workload isn’t controlled. He has been playing all three formats, T20 leagues, domestic cricket. The rotation policy of the bowlers should be viewed by the selectors and pick them when needed,” he added.

Iqbal on former captain Sarfaraz Ahmed said that it was not a good idea to remove him from the captaincy of the T20 format.

“He should not be sacked from T20 cricket. We disturbed the team by removing him, the team’s winning ration was high under his leadership,” he maintained.

It must be noted that Iqbal played in 50 Tests and 15 ODIs, picking 183 wickets from 1976 to 1988.
