Herschelle Gibbs appointed as new head coach of Karachi Kings

Karachi: Former South African opener Herschelle Gibbs appointed as the new head of defending champions of Pakistan Super League (PSL), Karachi Kings for the upcoming sixth season.

The appointment came after former head coach and Australian legend Dean Jones passed away before the PSL 5 playoffs.

Former Pakistan legend and Karachi Kings president Wasim Akram served as interim head coach in theknockout stage.

The 46-year-old Gibbs has played 23 T20Is, 248 ODIs and 90 Tests for South Africa. He scored 400 T20I, 8094 ODI and 6167 Test runs from 1996-2010.

Talking about his coaching career, Gibbs served as the head coach of the Rotterdam Rhinos for the inaugural edition of the Euro T20 Slam cricket tournament

Earlier, he also had experience coaching teams in the Shpageeza Cricket League and Kuwait’s national squad.

In November 2020, he was selected by the Colombo Kings as the Head Coach for the inaugural edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL).

Note, the most followed franchise of PSL, Karachi Kings defeated Lahore Qalandars in the final of season five at National Stadium in Karachi.
