Kamran extends Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s dominance in QeA Trophy final

Karachi: Kamran Ghulam’s fifth century of Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2020-21 season has extended Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s dominance on day three of the tournament’s five-day final against Central Punjab on Sunday.

The 25-year-old in the process also created history by becoming the highest run-scorer in a single edition of the prestigious Quaid-e-Azam Trophy.

The PCB Domestic Cricketer of the Year surpassed Saadat Ali’s 37-year-old record of 1217 runs (nine matches, 18 innings, at 71.59) set in the 1983-84 Quaid-e-Azam Trophy season.

He was unbeaten at 104 off 203 deliveries while captain Khalid Usman was at 14* when the stump were drawn. KP reached 243 for 5 with an overall lead of 286.

KP started their second innings with a 43-run lead, they were rocked back at the start with the loss of opener Fakhar Zaman (4) and Zohaib Khan (5) with the score at 33.

Israrullah registered his second-half century of the match as he scored 61 in the first innings too. He scored 63 off 97 balls (nine fours, one six) before he was dismissed stumped off Qasim Akram. Rehan Afridi was run out for one with the score at 204.

Kamran partnered with Adil Amin to add 83 runs for the fourth-wicket but it was broken by Waqas Maqsood who had Adil caught for 34 (88 balls, four fours).

Earlier, Central Punjab resumed their first innings on the overnight score of 212 for eight and declared after reaching 257 for nine in 83 overs.

The 18-year-old Qasim Akram completed the third half-century of his maiden first-class season. He made 60 off 102 balls with the help of nine fours.

Meanwhile, Waqas Maqsood smashed 20 off 14 balls which included a four and two sixes. Fast bowler Irfanullah Shah finished with four wickets for 73 while Khyber Pakhtunkhwa captain Khalid Usman finished with three for 32 with his left-arm-spin.
