Asia Cup not possible due to clash with ICC WTC’s final: Ehsan Mani

Karachi: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Ehsan Mani stated that the ACC Asia Cup 2021 would be impossible this year due to a clash with the inaugural ICC World Test Championship’s (WTC) final.

Mani said in a presser at a local hotel in Karachi while revealing the outcomes of the 61st Board of Governors (BoG) meeting where was accompanied by CEO Wasim Khan, National High-Performance Centre (NHPC) Director Nadeem Khan and CFO Barrister Salman Naseer.

“Sri Lanka had said it would host [the ACC Asia Cup 2021] in June but there’s now a clash of dates as the ICC Test Championship’s final match is in June. It is likely to be postponed till 2023,” Mani said.

The Asia cup is likely to get postponed as India is close to qualifying for the ICC WTC’s final final against New Zealand. The match is scheduled to take place in June at Lord’s, London.

“We are waiting for the official confirmation but we are clear it’s not possible this year,” Wasim further added.

Meanwhile, Mani said that the PCB have sought guarantee from the ICC for the players, fans, journalists’ visas ahead of the T20 World Cup scheduled to be held in India in October this year.

“We have sought a written guarantee from the ICC in this regard. I have one more meeting with ICC tomorrow where I will once again raise this matter. ICC have said that they will assure us in March” he added.
