Pakistani pacer signs deal with Hampshire for 2021 County Championship

Karachi: The 30-year-old Mohammad Abbas has signed a two-month deal with Hampshire for first two months of the 2021 County Championship season.

The right-arm pacer has previously played for Leicestershire in 2018 and 2019, taking 79 wickets in County cricket. He had to play for Nottinghamshire in 2020 but coronavirus forced to cancel his contract.

“We are really excited about the arrival of Mohammad Abbas. He is a bowler of the highest quality and to secure him for an early-season Championship stint is a huge boost to the squad. He joins Kyle Abbott as our second overseas signing and we are hopeful that they form a formidable pairing in early season conditions,” Giles White, the club’s director of cricket said.

Abbas was dropped from the Test side for the South Africa series in January 2021 after poor performances in New Zealand. The two-month stint with Hampshire will allow him to regain his form back

“I’m really pleased to be joining Hampshire and I can’t wait to join up with the team this summer,” Abbas said.

It must be noted that Abbas was an integral part of the Test side since 2017. He has bagged 84 wickets at an average of 22.80 in just 23 matches.
