Pakistanis back Arshad to end country’s 29-year Olympic medal drought

Tokyo: Javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem has given high hopes to the people of Pakistan of claiming a medal after he qualified for the final of javelin throw’s event at the Tokyo Olympics.
The 24-year-old Arshad Nadeem made history as he became first-ever Pakistani athlete to qualify for the final of any track and field event in the Olympics.
Arshad Nadeem made it to the final of men’s javelin throw with a throw of 85.16m, well beyond the qualification mark of 83.50m. His first attempt was 78.50m. This was overall third-best throw in the contest after India’s Neeraj Chopra (86.65m) and Germany’s Johannes Vetter (85.64m).
In December 2019, he established a new South Asian Games record in Javelin throw with a distance of 86.29 m, thus securing direct qualification for the Olympics.
The people of Pakistan, sportspersons, celebrities and many others are now backing Arshad to win a medal and end the country’s Olympic medal drought. The final of the men’s javelin throw competition at the Tokyo Olympics is scheduled for August 7.
