Tokyo 2020: Shooter Bashir eyes medal round qualification after impressive stage one
Tokyo: Pakistan’s national champion, shooter Ghulam Mustafa Bashir has shown impressive performance in stage one of 25m rapid fire pistol shooting competition at Tokyo Olympics 2020.
27 shooters were part of stage one on Sunday where they played 30 shots. As many shots will be played in stage two tomorrow and the top six will qualify for the medal round.
Country’s top shooter GM Bashir ended day one with 293 points after playing six series of five shots each in three different time brackets in stage one. He’s placed at 6th position.
On the other hand, Khalil Akhtar is placed at the 16th position with a total of 286 points after the end of stage 1.
According to the rules, each shooter has to play six series of five shots each. Two series in eight seconds, two in six seconds, and two in four seconds.
A shooter has to fire one shot at each of the five targets within a specified time limit for the series.
South Asian Games gold medalist Bashir scored 99 in series of eight seconds, 98 in series of six seconds and 96 in four seconds while Khalil scored 98, 96, and 92 in series of 8,6 and 4 seconds, respectively.
