Nasir Jamshed released on bail, to fight deportation case now
Karachi: Cricketer Nasir Jamshed, who was sentenced in a spot-fixing case, has been released on bail. He is now allowed to fight deportation proceedings from his home in England.
The 30-year-old Jamshed completed his sentence of 17 months following his involvement in spot-fixing during the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
He was charged for bribing fellow cricketers and forcing them to fix the matches. Jamshed is also banned by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for 10 years.

According to ESPNCricinfo, he was recently informed of the Home Office’s decision to progress with deportation proceedings.
The home office challenged the bail request at a hearing on October 28. The judge decided Jamshed was neither a flight risk nor a danger to others. He was released a couple of hours later. Deportation proceedings are expected to take several months.
It must be noted that he was allowed to remain in the UK on the basis of a spousal visa as his wife Samara Afzal is a Birmingham-born doctor.
The length of his sentence had come under the scrutiny of immigration authorities. Any non-citizen given a prison sentence of more than 12 months can be deported under UK law.
