Hussain Shah’s son Shah Hussain qualifies for Tokyo Olympics 2021

Karachi: Pakistan’s Judoka Shah Hussain Shah has qualified for Tokyo Olympics 2021, International Judo Federation sent a confirmation via email to the President of the Pakistan Olympic Association.

Despite missing last four most important qualifying events / World championship (two due to sufferung from COVID and 2 due to visa issue), Shah was able to maintain his top ranking in Asian Continent after direct qualifiers for more than two years, finally making it to Tokyo Olympics 2021.

Shah Hussain Shah represented Pakistan in numerous international venues in last decade including Rio 2016 Olympics (by qualification) and earned many medals. He is Commonwealth Games Sillver medalist, Asian Double bronze medalist, Four times South Asian Medalist, Current South Asian Champion, and a National Champion since 2017.

Meanwhile, President Pakistan Judo Federation (PJF) Col. Junaid Alam, have conveyed special gratitude to the Federal Minister IPC Ms Fahmida Mirza, for her special support for Judo and funds allocated through Pakistan Sports Board.

PJF had sent Shah to numerous international events of World Judo Olympic qualification. This is the most difficult qualifying process as compared to any other Olympic sport where an athlete cannot take risk of missing the calender events of IJF in 2 years Olympic qualifying period which was extended to the third year due to Pandemic.

In other sports, good performance on merely one specific event can take any athlete to Olympics, whereas here there is series of events even in one month. Within the meager resources, we prioritized the events with more weightage and probabilities. The strategy of Pakistan Judo federation was “special focus” on him with other probables, especially Amina Toyoda as well as Mr Qaisar Khan Afridi and Hamid Ali.

Note, Shah Hussain is the son of Hussain Shah, Olympic Bronze medalist of Seoul -1988.
