Nahida leads Dynamites to winning start in Pakistan Cup

KARACHI: Nahida Khan scored unbeaten 90 runs to lead her team Blasters to a winning start in Pakistan Cup Women’s One Day Tournament here at National Stadium on Thursday. 

Set to chase 187 in 50 overs against Dynamties, Blasters got the full support from opener Nahida Khan who helped them chase the target in 40.4 overs. Her inning included seven boundaries.

Gul Feroza stood well with her opening partner as they both scored 89 runs together. She scored 30 runs including two boundaries. Nida Dar made 25 runs.

Ghulam Fatima bagged two wickets while Maham Tariq and Nashra Sandhu took a wicket each for Dynamites.

Earlier, Dynamites were taken to 186-6 by skipper Muneeba Ali (62) and Aliya Riaz (57).

Nida Dar and Syeda Aroob Shah bagged two wickets each for Blasters.

In another contest on the opening day of the event at Oval Academy Ground, Challengers outclassed Strikers by 150 runs. Iram Javed (91) led Challengers to 256-7 in 50 overs after they decided to bat first.

Iram smashed the opponent’s bowlers all around the park as her inning included six boundaries and five sixes. Skipper Javeria Khan (46) and Fariha Mehmood (43) scored 78 runs together to start off the inning strongly for their team.

Natalia Pervaiz and Tooba Hassan took two wickets each for Strikers.

It was Natalia who also contributed the highest 22 runs for Strikers with the bat. For Challengers, Waheeda Akhtar, Syeda Masooma and Anoosha Nasir took two scalps each.
