42 members of Pakistan squad test COVID-19 negative, 3 results under investigation
Karachi: 42 members of the Pakistan squad in New Zealand have tested negative in the third round of Covid-19 testing conducted on day six of their arrival in the country.
NZ Health Ministry further said that three results are still under investigation to determine if they are historical cases and one result is pending.
“Day 6 swabs were taken yesterday from the 46 members of the Pakistan cricket squad in Christchurch who to date have returned negative test results for COVID-19,” media release stated.
“Of those, 42 have subsequently returned a further negative test result. Three are under investigation to determine whether they are historical cases, and one test result is pending,” it added.
A further update of the three tests will be provided tomorrow. The team is not allowed to train until the Canterbury DHB medical officer of health determines they are satisfied that any training activities are unlikely to transmit COVID-19.
Note, six members of the squad had tested positive on the first day of the team’s arrival while a seventh member tested positive on November 25.
Two of the six initial COVID-19 positive cases in the Pakistan squad are no longer infectious. Therefore, are allowed to join the team.
The contingent also underwent serology Tests and 11 individuals return positive serology due to having historical infections. Names were not revealed by the ministry.
Assistant coach Shahid Aslam was stopped at Auckland Airport upon arrival on November 24. He didn’t travel with the team to Christchurch as he informed Airport officials that he was suffering from a cough.
